Campaign Update - 2nd May
Over the past two weeks - we have printed and distributed flyers, held meetings with wildlife and legal experts - and gained a lot of followers!
Our facebook group has doubled in size - mostly as a result of a senior politician speaking out about the impact of this wind farm on seabirds. On that note - 4/5 candidates in local elections spoke about the negative impact of rushing into Berwick Bank - and opposition to the project drew the only applause of the evening at local hustings!
We will be holding our local peaceful protests on 9th May. Click on Join our Protest for more info.
Thanks from the team.
Campaign Update - 10th April
Online Meeting - Thanks to all those who attended our meeting.
We updated those who hadn’t been able to come to the Hope Rooms a couple of weeks ago - as well as highlighting some of the progress we have made.
To summarise: Over the past week, our flyers have been designed, website gone live, questions submitted for election hustings and peaceful protest planning underway.
An issue we shared was the already declining numbers of Kittiwakes observed by many. Whilst we are looking into the actual data - we would very much appreciate any observations or stories you have regarding the decline in numbers we are witnessing. As you know - Kittiwakes are already endangered - so we must do everything we can to protect them.
Further concerns raised included some of the toxic elements of this project. Products banned in other countries due to toxins leaching into soil. Toxicity of paints used into sea water. We are investigating further! Related to this were discussions on the impact of this on the wider ecosystem and in particular on fishing, lobsters, seafood - and knock on to local economy. Also raised was the direct link from East Lothian Council’s LDP and the importance of seabirds to tourism and the local economy (higher than golf!)
Finally - Hustings - we are attending the Dunbar and North Berwick events. 22nd and 28th April respectively. To show your support - attend wearing something white!
Appeal for general support - flyer distribution, banner making and attendance at the peaceful protest on 9th May. Thank you!
